How much does it cost to apply for US citizenship? 2019 fees

The filing fee for Form N-400, Application for U.S. Citizenship is $640. A biometric services fee of $85 is required for all applicants under 75 years of age, regardless of place of residence, or if filing from within the U.S. or abroad. Therefore, the current naturalization process fee is 725$.

However, DHS will charge naturalization applicants a reduced fee of $320 if their family income is greater than 150% and under 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. If the total household income is lower than 150% of the FPG, the service fee will be waived.

Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) explained

  1. If <200% FPG, the full amount of $725 ($640 + $85) to be paid
  2. If <150% - 200% FPG, half of the total fee amount to be paid - $405 ($320 + $85)
  3. If >150% FPG, payable fee is waived (See Fee Waiver Form instructions below)
